Mindset Mastery with Jason Su - Pregame
By JASON SU
For the record, I am extremely guilty of having done everything I’m about to outline.

Over the course of my poker career I’ve gone through so many terrible ways of preparing for sessions, including but not limited to:

- eating bad foods
- getting into a silly argument
- not completing an important task
- getting lost on the internet for hours
- sleeping too little
- sleeping too much
- nothing

In each case, I lost EV by not getting into the right mindset for the session I was about to play.

Consider this: if the average player feels about a 5 on a scale of 1-10 in terms of readiness and flow when they start their session, how much money in the long run would it be worth to always start at a 9 or a 10?

For me, if I had started at a 9 or 10 every session for the last 18 years, I’d probably have an extra million dollars.

Thankfully, my commitment to feeling great and playing my best from start to finish has become a big part of who I am as a poker player, and over the years I’ve learned how to make sure I enter each session feeling better than most.

So the big question:

How does one warm up properly?

There are a million different ways, but I think all good routines have one thing in common: they help you get connected inside and out. When you feel connected to both your inner experience as well as the world around you, you’re ready to play your best.

Here’s how you might create your own routine:

Play with different ways of moving, breathing, and preparing––keep all the things you like, get rid of anything that you don’t, and eventually you’ll have something that feels good to you.

Hopefully this gets you moving in the right direction.

In the meantime, if you’d like to try a ready-made method of warming up that will connect you inside-out and have you feeling inspired, and excited, my guided audio download, “The Ultimate Warmup” is available for free on my coaching site. It’s 8 minutes long and gets you ready to play your next session from a place of genuine excitement.
